Damage Control Dance Theater (DCDT) seeks experienced female and male dancers looking to challenge their personal and technical boundaries. Dancers need to be raw, fierce, funky, and fearless, plus possess creativity, collaborative spirit, a sense of humor, reliability, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. If you have skills in: Bellydance, Contemporary, Modern, Hip Hop, Afro-Caribbean, Lockin’, Boogaloo, or something crazy we've never seen before, we want to see you.

DCDT is working on a brand-new collection of dances in a genre we like to call "World Fusion Contemporary" for our home season (July 9-10, 2010 at the Victoria Theater) and potential touring opportunities. Performance pay may be available (based on qualifications).

Please note audition starts promptly at 3:30pm and latecomers will not be admitted.

Damage Control Dance Theater creates folkloric dance -- for, of, and by, "the folk" -- within a modern dance idiom, with an eye toward theatricality, staging, cohesiveness, and a western compositional aesthetic. So whether the movement is Bellydance or Hip Hop or Flamenco or Contemporary, we're reaching into the belly of the beat and coming up with a vocabulary that's raw, primal, visceral, and true. We use this vocabulary to tell stories that are universal and personal, familiar and fresh. DCDT has performed coast-to-coast, at venues including San Francisco’s Dance Mission Theater , Cowell Theater, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Los Angeles’ Def West Theater and LA Convention Center, to New York City’s Hybrid. We have toured internationally and performed to sold-out houses in Paris and Barcelona. DCDT constantly seeks to create safe space for deep personal exploration within dance that breaks ground and challenges barriers.

Cera Byer (choreographer/director) holds a degree in Dance from SFSU and has taught at high schools, studios, workshops, and retreats around the US and abroad. Her technical approach comes from continuing exhaustive exploration into Graham, Horton, and Dunham techniques, alongside Kathak, Persian, Bellydance, Hip Hop, Funk, and Afro-Caribbean traditions, but her choreography is anything but a dry academic approach to fusion. Cera's work has been called "a hot sweaty tribute that will have audiences and dancers alike moving and moved by the material", and "organic evolving studies into the biospheres of human emotion". Cera owns and operates Shoebox Studio in San Francisco and is the founder and director of Damage Control Dance Theater.
