Together, we create an experience of dancing as a self-regulating system, mode and means of responding, communicating and expressing ourselves through movement. Your body is fully acknowledged as source and resource of limitless possibilities. It is in the flux between knowing and unknowing that our bodies respond as instinct in order to find ground(ing); it is in this borderland that body can be a great generator of creative energies. Integrating somatics, movement phrases and improvisation we will generate new patterns of moving-thinking that offer our bodies time-space to actualize, reorganize and transform through our inherent movement intelligence and personal physical volition. Holly Johnston continues to live as a human person happily confused making dances. She works with members of a collective group of dance artists, LEDGES AND BONES.
Holly is the artistic director for LAB. The dance work has been a space of inquiry into our existence as human beings. She often refers to the artistic life as “living in Wonderland”. She and her fellow wanderers slip into ‘rabbit holes’ hoping to encounter the fluctuations between real and surreal, knowing and unknowing, of doing and being…of dancing and being the dance. Holly has done many things, created many dances, been a part of a pageantry of successes and she has also fallen down, tripped up facing backwards with loaded baggage tied around her neck, in public where others could see the obvious awkwardness spill out. For her, there has been no separation between life and dance; they are infinite recursions of each other. Time has passed, as it continues to also move forward, in the passing Holly has performed, choreographed, taught, questioned and spoken out loud in public quite often. In the continuation of time, Holly lives as a dance artist.
